Senior/Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support high assurance electronic products and advanced technologies for next-generation weapon systems.
• Play a key role in prototyping, maturation, production, and deployment of advanced technologies.
• Coordinate with electrical and mechanical engineers to design and qualify electrical components.
• Lead multidisciplinary trade studies in areas such as materials science and structural mechanics.
• Collaborate with technologists on assembly and troubleshooting processes.
• Coordinate environmental testing, including fixture design, test plan creation, and documentation of results.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Five years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
• Proficiency in CAD software for complex 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing.
• Experience with GD&T and design for manufacturing.
• Familiarity with FEA simulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex.
• Experience with Model-Based Definitions and configuration management systems.
• Experience planning and completing environmental tests (vibration, shock, thermal, pressure, etc.).
• Experience integrating electronics into hardware assemblies and using data acquisition tools.
