Senior/Principal R&D Laboratory Support Technologist - Explosive Material Operations

Responsibilities

• Produce high pedigree pyrotechnic precursors and energetic materials
• Perform research and development on material processing and characterization techniques
• Conduct quick-turnaround characterization using analytical techniques such as particle size analysis
• Perform small-scale sensitivity testing and meticulous powder retrieval
• Create and follow detailed work instructions for high-rigor production activities
• Execute method development and process improvement projects using design of experiments
• Document detailed findings and observations through meticulous laboratory notes
• Manage laboratory stewardship, including safety, security, and environment, health, and safety (ES&H) responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (e.g., Chemistry or Materials Science) or an equivalent combination of education and scientific lab experience
• Experience in scientific laboratory operations
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Three or more years of demonstrated scientific laboratory experience
• Experience working with hazardous materials or explosives
• Experience with analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., Laser Diffraction, NMR, IR, Gas Chromatography, or Thermal analysis)
• Demonstrated experience in process development and design of experiments
• Experience setting up and troubleshooting remote operations
