About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of wastewater treatment plants and collection systems in Clallam Bay/Sekiu
- Serve as the "Operator-in-Charge" for both Group II treatment plants, ensuring all facility permits and laboratory requirements are met
- Prepare and submit required Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Monitor flows, interpret meter readings, and adjust biological treatment, settling, and aeration processes to optimize performance
- Perform preventative maintenance on pumps, engines, generators, air compressors, and electrical components
- Conduct laboratory sampling and testing for parameters such as pH, temperature, BOD5, TSS, and Fecal Coliform
- Provide lead direction, training, and work assignments to lower-level operators and trainees
- Maintain accurate daily records of flows, rainfall, and equipment meter readings
- Perform inspections for sewer hook-ups and repairs, and conduct utility locates for existing systems
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED supplemented by college-level coursework in wastewater, environmental science, or a related field
- Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater plant operation and maintenance
- Proven experience in a lead operator role and performing "Operator-in-Charge" duties
- Possession of a valid Washington State Group II (or higher) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate
- Ability to reside within 30 miles of the Clallam Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as required
