Senior Video Player Engineer, Android

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement core Android video player features for FOX consumer applications
• Build high-performance playback experiences for live events across phones, tablets, Android TV, and Fire TV
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Project Management, and Backend teams to deliver streaming initiatives
• Lead efforts in performance, scalability, security, and engineering best practices
• Create technical specifications, documentation, and support agile delivery
• Track and prioritize work across team members and stay current on mobile platform trends

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Strong Java and Kotlin development skills
• Experience with Android Jetpack Suite
• Experience building video playback components, UI, metadata, and third-party integrations
• Experience with RESTful APIs, unit testing, and end-to-end testing
• Familiarity with Git, SVN, Jenkins, Docker, and Agile methodologies
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with video streaming technologies such as HLS
• Experience with ExoPlayer, ABR algorithms, and video QoE metrics
• Experience with analytics platforms such as Conviva or Mux
• Prior experience leading a mobile application team
• Knowledge of responsive UX across multiple Android device form factors
• UML diagramming experience
