About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform quantity takeoffs from source files including CAD, Microstation, or PDF
- Prepare estimates for subcontracted and self-perform utility work including water, wastewater, gas, electric, and telecom
- Research historical projects to determine applicable past costs and prepare theoretical estimates when necessary
- Perform both top-down (ROM) and bottoms-up estimates by analyzing all aspects of operations in detail
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages, including compiling quantities and writing detailed scopes
- Prepare construction schedules by advising technicians on activity logic, duration, and resource loading
- Input quantities into estimating software and apply unit pricing based on historical Kiewit databases
- Interface with other discipline estimators to ensure scope alignment across large-scale projects
Requirements
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management Degree
- Minimum of 20 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years specifically in estimating
- Proficiency in opening and manipulating .dwg, .dgn, and .pdf files
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of Bentley Projectwise
- Experience with estimating software such as HCSS or Hard Dollar
- Basic knowledge of utility construction means, methods, and heavy civil operations (grading, paving, drainage, structures)
