Senior Underwriter, Financial Lines

Responsibilities

• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities to align with organizational appetite and business growth.
• Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify and capitalize on market growth.
• Negotiate terms and conditions, close deals, and cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density.
• Develop and maintain strong broker and client networks, serving as the primary contact for assigned target accounts.
• Measure exposure, analyze risk, and accurately calculate target prices using appropriate underwriting tools.
• Lead and participate in marketing presentations, sales team meetings, and the target account process.
• Monitor and review work across various projects to ensure appropriate resource use and adherence to schedules.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, law, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 to 8 years of underwriting experience specifically in financial lines.
• Proficiency in both Japanese and English to liaise with Japanese brokers and clients.
• Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and pricing strategies.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
• Proven track record of success and a good personal reputation within the Japan market.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions within delegated authority levels.
