About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical authority for UAS platform development, owning system architecture and performance from concept to deployment
- Work within multidisciplinary teams to guide full-lifecycle UAS design, integration, and fielding
- Conceptualise system architecture, producing technical trade studies, mass/power/link budgets, and performance assessments
- Define Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and enforce interface control processes across mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems
- Establish requirements baselines and end-to-end traceability using tools like IBM DOORS and MBSE approaches
- Lead the system safety program, coordinating Hazard Assessments and FMEA/DFMEA activities to ensure airworthiness
- Manage tactical engineering tasks during development sprints and live flight-test campaigns to resolve technical blockers
Requirements
- Degree in Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Robotic, or a closely related Engineering discipline
- Significant industry experience with systems engineering responsibility on UAVs, autonomous aircraft, or safety-critical aerospace platforms
- Practical experience integrating UAS subsystems including power, propulsion, RF/EMC, sensors, and datalinks
- Proficiency with requirements management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS) and verification/validation (V&V) activities
- Familiarity with aerospace safety standards such as ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-178C, or DO-254
- Knowledge of MBSE principles and risk mitigation methodologies like FMEA/DFMEA
- Eligible to obtain and maintain UK defence security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Systems Engineering Lead on a fielded UAV platform
- Experience integrating tactical payloads, electronic warfare (EW) components, or edge-computing hardware
- Background in start-up or scale-up environments involving rapid prototyping and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
