Senior UAV Prototyping Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own the full engineering development cycle for UAV prototypes, including concept, design, fabrication, integration, and first flight
• Make autonomous decisions regarding airframe structures, avionic stacks, mechanisms, and ground support equipment
• Set the technical approach when coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering groups and resolve design conflicts directly
• Lead field flight test campaigns, including go/no-go decisions and rapid root-cause diagnosis of anomalies
• Convert engineering knowledge into documented, repeatable processes for the wider team
• Mentor and technically unblock junior and mid-level engineers during design reviews and build processes
• Proactively flag technical and schedule risks to leadership

Requirements

• Proven track record of owning a full engineering development cycle from concept to flight-tested prototype
• Extensive hands-on experience with composites, mechanical assemblies, robotics, and embedded hardware integration
• Strong, independent root-cause diagnostic ability for hardware and flight data anomalies
• Experience operating autonomously across multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Ability to make high-judgment design trade-offs under ambiguity and schedule pressure
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances for the defence sector

Preferred Qualifications

• Active A2/A3 drone pilot certification or equivalent national license
• Advanced CAD expertise (Fusion 360 or SolidWorks)
• Deep familiarity with flight controller ecosystems such as PX4, ArduPilot, or Betaflight at a debugging level
• Experience with fixed-wing platforms in addition to multirotors
• Background in competition, motorsport, or high-intensity workshop environments
