Senior Traffic Engineer

Responsibilities

• Serve as Task Lead on traffic studies and safety projects, overseeing schedules, deliverables, and quality assurance
• Oversee the development of traffic operations analyses, corridor studies, design traffic forecasting, and statewide safety programs
• Apply advanced modeling and simulation using tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, SIDRA, and VISSIM to improve system performance
• Develop recommendations for traffic operational improvements, including intersection control evaluations (ICE), signal warrants, and congestion mitigation
• Prepare traffic design plans, including traffic signals, signing, and pavement marking
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate traffic operations with transportation planning and multimodal design goals
• Mentor junior staff in traffic operations, modeling, and safety analysis

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
• 7 to 10+ years of experience in Traffic Engineering
• Georgia Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of joining
• Proficiency with Synchro, Sidra, HCS, and VISSIM
• Experience with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and GuideSIGN
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and high attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with GDOT processes and procedures
• Experience with large-scale Design-Build and Public Private Partnership projects
• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
• Active participation in professional engineering societies
