About the role
Responsibilities
- Identify feasible thermal architectures and mature designs through conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases using passive and active thermal control techniques.
- Perform thermal analysis of varying fidelity on hardware including propulsion components, batteries, high-powered electronics, RF components, and PCBs.
- Design, evaluate, procure, and test thermal solutions such as heaters, heat pipes, thermal interface materials, and surface coatings.
- Plan and execute thermal vacuum testing and verification at both the component and spacecraft levels.
- Develop processes for integration and assembly to ensure thermal design intent is met.
- Mentor junior engineers and assist in recruiting and hiring for the growing team.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or physics.
- 6+ years of experience in a thermal or mechanical engineering role.
- Proven experience in thermal analysis and thermally-constrained design.
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD software.
- Strong problem-solving background and hands-on testing skills.
- U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency, or Refugee/Asylee Status required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Thermal Desktop.
- Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical or ANSYS IcePak.
- Experience with electronics packaging and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design.
- Experience building and operating high vacuum systems.
- Experience designing for vacuum environments or environments with large temperature swings.
