About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide frontline, on-site technical response for MRI systems and supporting infrastructure, including power quality and cooling systems.
- Perform safe repair, performance assurance, preventive maintenance, and incoming inspections of imaging systems.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between clinical MR teams, equipment vendors, and in-house facilities.
- Manage the full equipment lifecycle, including RFP development, installation planning, room construction verification, and end-of-life planning.
- Schedule and execute regular maintenance alongside vendors to minimize clinical downtime.
- Maintain accurate work documentation, equipment inventory, and service records in the Medical Engineering database.
- Participate in risk management activities, including incident investigations and managing safety alerts or recalls.
Requirements
- Completion of a 3-year community college program in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or a recognized equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years of practical experience, with significant experience supporting medical imaging equipment in a clinical environment.
- Strong knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, and power distribution.
- MR safety training, or the willingness to complete MR safety training and credentialing upon hire.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience specifically supporting MRI systems.
- Membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
- Certification as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist through the ACI.
- Familiarity with HVAC and cooling systems.
- Membership in professional societies such as CESO or CMBES.
