About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline, on-site technical response for MRI systems and supporting infrastructure, including power quality and cooling systems.
  • Perform safe repair, performance assurance, preventive maintenance, and incoming inspections of imaging systems.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between clinical MR teams, equipment vendors, and in-house facilities.
  • Manage the full equipment lifecycle, including RFP development, installation planning, room construction verification, and end-of-life planning.
  • Schedule and execute regular maintenance alongside vendors to minimize clinical downtime.
  • Maintain accurate work documentation, equipment inventory, and service records in the Medical Engineering database.
  • Participate in risk management activities, including incident investigations and managing safety alerts or recalls.

Requirements

  • Completion of a 3-year community college program in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or a recognized equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of practical experience, with significant experience supporting medical imaging equipment in a clinical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, and power distribution.
  • MR safety training, or the willingness to complete MR safety training and credentialing upon hire.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience specifically supporting MRI systems.
  • Membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
  • Certification as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist through the ACI.
  • Familiarity with HVAC and cooling systems.
  • Membership in professional societies such as CESO or CMBES.
