About the role
Responsibilities
- Direct conciliation conferences for tax cases
- Handle a significant portfolio of complex tax cases with substantial financial or legal considerations
- Evaluate complex tax audit matters to resolve disagreements
- Conduct tax mediation conferences following established policies and procedures
- Review taxpayer submissions and audit files to understand facts and legal issues
- Research and analyze relevant statutes, rules, and case law regarding City business income and excise tax
- Ensure taxpayers understand their rights in the conciliation process
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly to all parties and the Director
- Provide supported recommendations to the Director after thorough analysis
- Process and close cases in the DOF's Business Tax Services computer system
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of service as an Agency Attorney Interne
- Background in State and Local Tax or tax audit matters preferred
