Senior Staff Software Engineer

Heron Power is a startup company building cutting-edge power electronics for the 21st-century grid. We aim to debottleneck the growth of electricity generation and consumption with scalable, innovative, and less costly hardware solutions, accelerating the electrification of everything.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for major systems including backend services, data models, and APIs
• Write and ship production code across the stack, from backend services to internal tools
• Own cloud infrastructure provisioning on AWS using Terraform or Pulumi
• Build and harden CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling using GitHub Actions
• Design containerization and orchestration strategies using Kubernetes
• Define observability, monitoring, and alerting practices using Grafana and Prometheus
• Embed security practices including access controls and secrets management
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, and mentorship

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Significant experience at a Staff or Principal IC level owning large production systems
• Deep expertise in backend services and distributed systems
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript
• Hands-on experience with AWS, containers, and Kubernetes
• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling
• Strong communication skills and track record of leading cross-functional projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building software for manufacturing, supply chain, or hardware operations
• Experience standing up greenfield platforms at a fast-growing startup
• Familiarity with relational databases, SQL, and data pipelines
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues
• Expert-level comfort with Linux and Git workflows
