Senior Staff Research Engineer, Robot Intelligence

About the Company

The Robot Intelligence Lab at Samsung Research America is a new facility dedicated to advancing the field of robotics through cutting-edge research and development. The lab focuses on developing advanced technologies like robotics foundation models, VLA models, and reinforcement learning to create intelligent robotic systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and design robotic hardware and software components
• Integrate sensors, actuators, and other components into robotic systems
• Design, develop, integrate, and test algorithms for robot control, navigation, and perception
• Optimize robotic system performance and accuracy
• Document and present results for optimizing models for real-time inference on edge devices
• Conduct experiments and benchmark performance against state-of-the-art approaches
• Prepare proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and execute pilot studies
• Deploy robot platforms and data collection mechanisms for in-the-wild data aggregation

Requirements

• PhD or Master’s degree in EECS, Robotics, or equivalent
• 7+ years of industry experience in robotics foundation models, VLA, or VLMs
• Demonstrated experience in kinematics, dynamics, and control systems
• Solid understanding of computer vision (object detection, segmentation, tracking)
• Experience with sensors and actuators integration, CAD, and 3D printing tools
• Proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, C, C++, Java, ROS, and CUDA
• Strong understanding of locomotion, manipulation, SLAM, and policy architectures
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
