About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of software for Specialized Test Equipment (STE) and Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE).
- Develop application software, control software, and scripted workflows for lab, integration, and qualification environments.
- Design and implement embedded real-time software for subsystem control, telemetry processing, and command handling.
- Develop software interfaces for lab instrumentation, processors, controllers, and custom electronics.
- Define software architecture, requirements allocation, and design artifacts for ground-support and embedded components.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to integrate payloads, sensors, and support equipment.
- Support hardware integration, low-level debugging, and root cause analysis across embedded environments.
- Lead small technical teams and provide guidance on software implementation, reuse, and lifecycle execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience (or equivalent experience as specified).
- Proven experience developing software for aerospace, space, avionics, or complex embedded systems.
- Proficiency in embedded software development using C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as VxWorks, FreeRTOS, RTLinux, or QNX.
- Experience with communication protocols including SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, Ethernet, CAN, UART, SPI, or I2C.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, interface documents, and electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with STIG and Cyber hardening procedures.
- Knowledge of space domain mission operations, including payload integration and telemetry flows.
- Experience with electromechanical devices such as motors, servo controllers, gimbals, and actuators.
- Experience with imaging payloads, optical systems, or sensor processing applications.
- Familiarity with engineering toolchains like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or COSMOS.
- Experience with DevOps and configuration management tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Jira, and Confluence.
