Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineering (Structural)

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis for spaceborne precision optics, mirrors, mounts, and cryogenic optical systems for IR payloads
• Lead mechanical analysis teams for IR payloads and mechanical subsystems
• Collaborate with design and test engineering for the build and testing of subsystems and payloads
• Author mechanical analysis sections for PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews and compliance documents
• Participate in risk assessment and development of mitigation strategies for complex optical payloads
• Assist with schedule, cost, and technical leadership of major subsystems and payloads

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree with 4+ years of experience
• 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
• Experience in mechanical analysis and testing for space environments (temperature, vacuum, sine, random, shock, acoustic, etc.)
• Proficiency in 3D CAD design
• Experience with dynamic and structural analysis in spaceborne systems
• Experience leading vibration test events and fixture analysis efforts
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret Security Clearance
• Experience with Creo or Solidworks
• Prior IR/cryogenic optical or mechanical analysis experience, including STOP and jitter
• Experience developing optical alignment and metering structures or major sub-assemblies
• Experience performing mechanical analysis of precision structures optimized for stiffness, low mass, and strength
