Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight to cross-disciplinary engineering design teams developing ruggedized opto-mechanical and electro-optical systems.
• Oversee the conceptualization and development of working designs, computer models, layouts, and drawings using MCAD/MCAE tools.
• Develop and approve engineering documentation, including product specifications, drawings, assembly procedures, and test plans.
• Perform mechanical analyses (quasi-static, kinematic, and/or dynamic) using classical and Finite Element methods to verify structural integrity and performance.
• Participate in internal and customer design reviews to demonstrate design conformance to requirements.
• Support the assembly, integration, and testing of prototype hardware.
• Lead technical proposal efforts, including architecture conceptualization and labor estimation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of relevant engineering experience, or a Master’s Degree with 4+ years of experience.
• 2 years of experience with optics, lens design, and opto-mechanical alignment techniques.
• 4 years of experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Solid Edge.
• 4 years of experience with GD&T and drawing standards per ASME Y14.5.
• 2 years of experience with structural, structural dynamics, or thermal analyses.
• Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hardware development for aerospace applications.
• Familiarity with FEA tools, specifically FEMAP/NX Nastran and/or ANSYS.
• Experience with EO/IR systems.
• Familiarity with military testing standards (MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461).
• Proficiency with computer design tools such as Teamcenter, MathCAD, or Matlab.
• Experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) processing or cryogenic compressor design.
