Senior Software Engineer

About the Company

Performance Drone Works (PDW) is building the next generation of tactical robotic systems used across defense, national security, and public safety missions. We design and produce multi-mission aerial systems that operators trust to perform in real-world conditions, reliably, repeatedly, and at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of significant software features and subsystems
• Make sound technical decisions independently and navigate ambiguity
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering teams to shape requirements
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks, architectural weaknesses, and security gaps
• Support field deployments, product demonstrations, and hands-on debugging
• Drive continuous improvement in code quality and system performance

Requirements

• Advanced software development skills in C++
• Experience with performance optimization and memory management
• Proven experience delivering complex, production-quality software systems
• Hands-on experience with embedded Linux, Android, or similar platforms
• Experience building responsive UI systems (preferably Qt/QML)
• Knowledge of REST and JSON integration
• Proficiency with agile, CI/CT/CD, and code review practices
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
• 5–8 years of professional software development experience
• Must be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or have asylee/refugee status (ITAR)

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience with the Qt framework (QtWidgets, QML, meta-object system)
• Success deploying cross-platform applications on Windows, Linux, or Android
• Background in UAVs, aircraft, robotics, or autonomous systems
• Knowledge of build systems like CMake or QMake
• Proficiency with Git branching and collaborative workflows
