Senior Software Engineer, Ontology & Reasoning Systems

Responsibilities

• Own the ontology and rule layer that unifies structured, semi-structured, and unstructured enterprise data into a single reasoning model
• Model entities, relationships, events, and constraints across heterogeneous sources
• Use LLMs at the ingestion boundary for extraction, normalization, and categorization
• Ensure system findings are traceable by connecting conclusions to source facts and rules
• Build retrieval capabilities including vector search, keyword search, and graph traversal
• Improve quality through entity resolution and constraint modeling
• Ship production services and research prototypes with a focus on correctness and reliability

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems in Python, Go, Java, Scala, or Rust
• Strong foundation in discrete mathematics, logic, and graph theory
• Experience with declarative, logic-based, or rule-based reasoning systems (e.g., Datalog, Prolog, SMT solvers)
• Practical experience building LLM-powered systems including RAG or classification pipelines
• Deep experience with knowledge graphs and graph databases such as Neo4j, RDF, or SPARQL
• Experience designing systems with provenance and derivation chains
• Strong debugging, testing, and validation practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with constraint satisfaction or deductive reasoning (CSP, unification)
• Experience with formal ontology and semantics (OWL, SHACL, description logics)
• Experience with LLM evaluation, entity resolution, or hallucination reduction
• Experience with symbolic computation, theorem proving, or formal verification
