Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly scalable, reliable, web-scale applications, tools, and automation frameworks for the Roku Content Management System
• Build data pipelines for batch, near-real-time, and real-time processing
• Translate functional specifications into logical, component-based technical designs
• Write and review high-performance code, evaluating architectural tradeoffs for performance and security
• Participate in architecture discussions and influence the product roadmap
• Collaborate with product management and internal engineering teams to evolve CMS and tools

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, or Python
• Strong experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
• Experience with REST/JSON API frameworks
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Knowledge of NoSQL (Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis) and RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL)
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science
• AI literacy and curiosity, including experience or interest in Generative AI
