Senior Software Engineer - Backend

Responsibilities

• Build extremely large-scale platform products and services used by Roku engineers and millions of consumers across various devices
• Work closely with Product and Design teams to iterate on software, taking concepts from ideation to production deployment and support
• Lead efforts to evaluate new technologies and drive best practices across the development life cycle, including code and design reviews
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables within an Agile development process
• Participate in all stages of the software lifecycle, including scoping, technical design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems
• 5+ years of experience working with cloud-based platforms and infrastructure
• Deep experience in building microservices using Java for container platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes
• Solid understanding of databases including Aurora MySQL and DynamoDB
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as ALB, ECS, and RDS
• Proficiency with protocols and data formats including REST, WebSockets, HTTPS, JSON, and Protobuf
• Strong understanding of system concepts such as eventual consistency and the CAP theorem
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field
