Senior Software Engineer - Backend

Parker's mission is to increase the number of financially independent people by equipping independent business owners with the financial tools they need to scale profitably. We are a Series B fintech that combines a virtual corporate card with profitability-focused financial software for eCommerce merchants.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale backend services that power Parker’s financial products and APIs
• Lead architectural decisions to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability
• Build and maintain services in a modern cloud-native environment using Node.js, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
• Partner with product and infrastructure teams to design secure, intuitive APIs and data models
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, technical mentorship, and architectural guidance
• Identify performance bottlenecks and lead initiatives to improve reliability and observability
• Contribute to the evolution of Parker’s technical roadmap and long-term engineering vision

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
• Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable backend systems in production
• Strong proficiency with Node.js and TypeScript (or Go, Java, or Python)
• Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL), Docker, and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with GraphQL, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in fintech, payments, or e-commerce infrastructure
• Background in credit systems, ledgering, or transactional data modeling
• Contributions to or interest in open source software
• Experience in high-growth startup environments
