About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead R&D and process development for surface-modified substrates to support genomics technologies
- Design and optimize surface chemistries, including organosilanes, thiols/SAMs, linkers, and biomolecule immobilization
- Develop and scale surface functionalization processes, linking chemistry settings to assay performance
- Execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to define robust operating windows and control plans
- Build Quality Control (QC) workflows, including metrology panels and correlation models
- Own troubleshooting, failure analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions via SOP updates
- Partner cross-functionally with chemistry, biology, and engineering teams to drive innovation
- Mentor technicians and junior staff while prototyping next-generation coatings
Requirements
- Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related field
- Relevant industry experience: BS with 8+ years, MS with 5+ years, or PhD with 3+ years
- Hands-on experience with surface functionalization, optimization, and characterization
- Proficiency with metrology tools such as AFM, Ellipsometry, XPS, FTIR, or SEM
- Experience with vapor-phase or CVD-style deposition of surface chemistries
- Familiarity with microfabrication processes including PVD, CVD, lithography, or etch
- Strong data analysis skills using Python, JMP, Matlab, or R
- Experience applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor process stability
