About the role
Responsibilities
- Drive scientific value from external collaborations by building peer-to-peer relationships with academic scientists.
- Act as a scientific bridge between the Oxford Immunobiology group and internal stakeholders in precision medicine and genomics.
- Propose orthogonal approaches to validate clinical dataset observations using primary tissue assays.
- Co-lead the Enabling Biology cross-site working group to establish key assays, models, and biological capabilities.
- Lead biological pathway deconvolution and develop target validation packages for the AbbVie portfolio.
- Supervise and mentor lab-based scientists across the Immunobiology and Novel Therapeutics groups.
- Maintain a presence at the bench to support research activities and tool validation.
Requirements
- BSc, MSc, or PhD in a relevant scientific field, including industry experience or equivalent.
- Proven experience in matrixed project leadership.
- Extensive knowledge of immunological techniques, including primary cell culture and functional in vitro/ex vivo assays (e.g., myeloid, lymphocytic, or mesenchymal cells).
- Proficiency in flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
- At least two years of practical experience with complex in vitro or in vivo model systems.
- Demonstrated research experience within an immunological disease area.
- Experience in biological pathway deconvolution or formal target validation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced techniques such as spectral flow cytometry and high-content imaging.
- Proficiency in 'omics technologies, including bulk/single-cell RNAseq, proteomics, or spatial transcriptomics.
- Experience establishing explant or biopsied-tissue based bioassays.
- Background in working with organoids, organ-on-a-chip models, or high-throughput assays.
- Familiarity with antibody binding techniques such as ELISA, FACS, or SPR.
