About the Company
At the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT), we’re on a mission to translate scientific discovery into real world impact. We bring together visionary scientists, technologists, engineers, researchers, educators and innovators to tackle humanity’s greatest challenges in four transformative areas: Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology; Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture; Climate Change & Managing CO₂; and Artificial Intelligence & Robotics.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute statistically robust, hypothesis-driven experiments to isolate key variables and generate reproducible data.
- Investigate physicochemical principles underlying nucleic acid adsorption, elution, and surface interactions within device materials.
- Characterise enzyme–substrate interactions under non-ideal conditions, including the effects of inhibitors and ionic strength.
- Develop quantitative analytical frameworks to define performance metrics and guide iterative optimisation.
- Translate mechanistic findings into design recommendations for workflow architecture and reagent formats.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to align biochemical requirements with device design constraints.
Requirements
- PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
- Deep expertise in characterising biomolecular systems and enzyme kinetics.
- Experience with surface functionalisation and bioconjugation strategies.
- Strong understanding of nucleic acid purification, separation, and manipulation.
- Hands-on experience in assay and analytical method development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience quantifying non-nucleic acid chemical species within laboratory workflows.
- Familiarity with library preparation chemistries and sequencing workflows (e.g., Oxford Nanopore).
- Experience working with microfluidic systems or polymer interfaces.
- Proven track record of innovation such as patents or translational research contributions.
