About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and execute system identification experiments for actuators, mechanisms, and full robot subsystems
- Own kinematic calibration workflows including DH parameter identification and tool-center-point calibration
- Build automated calibration and sys-id tooling for production hardware
- Lead design and implementation of robot behaviors and task-level intelligence
- Drive improvements in autonomy quality using data and model validation
- Collaborate with hardware engineering on software-hardware integration
- Lead technical design reviews and mentor engineers
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 5+ years of software engineering experience in production robotics systems
- Strong foundation in dynamics, controls, and system identification
- Experience characterizing electromechanical systems like motors and articulated arms
- Proficiency in Rust, Python, or C++
- Experience integrating software with sensors, actuators, and embedded systems
- Willingness to support production operations through an on-call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate-level research in system identification or adaptive control
- Experience with nonlinear system identification (EKF, particle filters)
- Familiarity with physics simulators like MuJoCo, Drake, or Isaac Sim
- Experience with real-time embedded systems or RTOS
- Familiarity with ROS/ROS 2
- Experience building data pipelines for robot telemetry
