About the role

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and deploy state estimation and sensor fusion algorithms (EKFs, UKFs, particle filters, factor graphs)
  • Develop and tune advanced control algorithms including nonlinear control, MPC, optimal control, and whole-body control
  • Architect and ship production-grade C++ control code for real-time embedded environments
  • Iterate between simulation and hardware to design experiments and debug failure modes
  • Develop trajectory optimization and motion planning algorithms
  • Define performance metrics and evaluation frameworks for control and estimation subsystems
  • Collaborate with embedded, mechanical, and AI teams to integrate algorithms across the robot stack

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing control systems for dynamic robots on real hardware
  • Master's or PhD in Robotics, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Deep expertise in control theory (nonlinear control, MPC, LQR, optimal control, whole-body control)
  • Strong state estimation background (Kalman filters, particle filters, factor graphs)
  • Production-quality C++ for real-time control and Python for analysis/simulation
  • Solid command of robot kinematics, rigid-body dynamics, and spatial mathematics
  • Hands-on experience with sensor integration (IMUs, encoders, force/torque sensors)
  • Proven track record of implementing and validating algorithms on physical robotic systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with bipedal, quadruped, or humanoid robots
  • Background in reinforcement learning or learning-augmented control
  • Experience with whole-body control and contact dynamics
  • Familiarity with trajectory optimization frameworks (OSQP, IPOPT, Crocoddyl)
  • Proficiency with simulation environments like MuJoCo, Drake, or Isaac Sim
  • Experience with real-time computing constraints and embedded deployment
  • Track record of publications at top-tier venues (ICRA, IROS, CoRL, RSS, IJRR)
