Senior Research Associate, Histology

Responsibilities

• Perform histopathological assessment and support interpretation of human tissue samples to identify disease-relevant regions
• Assess tissue sample quality and suitability for phenotype-specific isolation workflows
• Identify and annotate tissue regions to support downstream molecular profiling, microdissection, and somatic variant analysis
• Execute histological techniques including dissection, tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, IHC, IF, and specialized staining
• Review and support the interpretation of histology, IHC, and tissue-based assay data
• Collaborate cross-functionally to support process optimization and method development
• Ensure accurate handling, labeling, and traceability of human tissue samples
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Human Tissue Act (HTA) and COSHH
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency and reproducibility

Requirements

• BSc or MSc degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical science, or a related field
• 3+ years of relevant post-graduation experience
• Experience working within a histopathology lab (Biotech, academia, or NHS environment)
• Specialist training and practical experience in histology techniques and tissue-based assays
• Proficiency in tissue sectioning, H&E staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and digital pathology workflows
• Expertise in histological assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting
• Knowledge and experience working under HTA regulations
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
• Experience using laboratory information management systems (Benchling preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of image analysis and digital pathology software
• Experience working in a high-throughput laboratory environment
• Familiarity with automated histology instrumentation
• Experience in molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction and NGS library preparation
• Experience working with laser capture microdissection
