About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform histopathological assessment and support interpretation of human tissue samples to identify disease-relevant regions
- Assess tissue sample quality and suitability for phenotype-specific isolation workflows
- Identify and annotate tissue regions to support downstream molecular profiling, microdissection, and somatic variant analysis
- Execute histological techniques including dissection, tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, IHC, IF, and specialized staining
- Review and support the interpretation of histology, IHC, and tissue-based assay data
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support process optimization and method development
- Ensure accurate handling, labeling, and traceability of human tissue samples
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Human Tissue Act (HTA) and COSHH
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency and reproducibility
Requirements
- BSc or MSc degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical science, or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant post-graduation experience
- Experience working within a histopathology lab (Biotech, academia, or NHS environment)
- Specialist training and practical experience in histology techniques and tissue-based assays
- Proficiency in tissue sectioning, H&E staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and digital pathology workflows
- Expertise in histological assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Knowledge and experience working under HTA regulations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
- Experience using laboratory information management systems (Benchling preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of image analysis and digital pathology software
- Experience working in a high-throughput laboratory environment
- Familiarity with automated histology instrumentation
- Experience in molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction and NGS library preparation
- Experience working with laser capture microdissection
