Senior Research and Prototyping Engineer

About the Company

Arcturus is creating a new wire technology stack that uses carbon nanomaterials to overcome the materials limitations of metals. Our technology is designed to significantly improve the performance of electric motors for drones and robotics, heat sinks, and the entire energy grid.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, assemble, and iterate on prototypes, test fixtures, and experimental rigs
• Create CAD designs for parts, assemblies, and test infrastructure using Onshape
• Build and modify mechanical systems using machining, 3D printing, and hands-on fabrication
• Support electrical test setups including wiring, sensors, circuits, and data acquisition
• Build and troubleshoot laser, optical, gas-flow, and vacuum test setups
• Instrument test setups with sensors, thermocouples, cameras, and microcontrollers
• Debug hardware, test rigs, and experimental systems
• Document designs, test procedures, and build notes clearly
• Coordinate with vendors and machine shops to source parts and fabricate components

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, or Physics
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in prototyping, test engineering, or hardware development
• Strong CAD skills for designing parts and assemblies from scratch
• Practical electrical engineering skills including wiring, circuits, and sensors
• Ability to translate ambiguous technical requirements into working hardware
• Strong technical documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Onshape
• Familiarity with Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, LabVIEW, or MATLAB
• Experience with DAQ systems, high-current testing, or thermal measurement systems
• Experience in a hardware startup or advanced manufacturing environment
