About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage medium to large-scale development, manufacturing, R&D, or analysis programs to maintain objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Own test planning efforts, including facility identification, article fabrication, test matrices, and risk reduction activities.
- Coordinate cross-departmental communication to maintain master schedules and mitigate technical risks.
- Work with collaborators and external partners (MIT, national laboratories, etc.) to ensure timelines and objectives are aligned.
- Partner with procurement to ensure accurate, lean, system-level purchases that meet program timelines.
- Act as a mentor to the R&D engineering team and manage internal and external engineering consultants.
- Drive technical discussions to ensure test articles maximize learning for future design efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or applied science discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a responsible engineer or technical contributor.
- 5+ years of experience managing complex hardware development projects.
- Proven experience in system-level design.
- Proficiency with project and product management tools.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to work onsite and occasional willingness to travel or work non-standard hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
- Experience applying for and managing government research proposals.
- History of leading complex engineering or physics projects, specifically involving superconducting magnets.
- Experience utilizing university, national laboratory, or outsourced research organizations.
