Senior Quantum Field Engineer

Responsibilities

• Inspire prospective clients by explaining IonQ’s strategy, portfolio, and technical capabilities across compute, network, security, sensing, and space.
• Lead client discussions to map business needs to quantum algorithms in domains such as financial services, bioscience, chemistry, and generative AI.
• Execute Proof-of-Concepts in collaboration with the IonQ Application team to move projects from ideation to production workflows.
• Translate client business requirements into technical work projects and share feedback with Product Management and Engineering teams.
• Create technical assets to explain the features of quantum applications and other IonQ products.
• Partner with marketing, developer relations, and business development to grow global awareness of IonQ.
• Attend industry conferences and support booth activities as needed.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in technical customer-facing roles or equivalent capacity.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM field (e.g., Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering).
• Strong interest in quantum computing and a motivated learner mindset.
• Proficiency in Python and Jupyter Notebooks.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to various audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in a STEM field, ideally adjacent to quantum computing.
• Hands-on experience with quantum computing SDKs such as Qiskit or Cirq.
• Expert architecture skills across various technologies ("full stack skills").
• Previous experience in leadership roles on the customer side of various industry verticals.
• Experience leading technical events.
