About the role

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate terms and conditions of subcontracts
  • Manage and process payments for specialist subcontracts and key suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, conditions, rights, and obligations
  • Coordinate changes or amendments using NEC 4 Option A, B & E contract processes
  • Analyse the impact of changes and potential liability exposure
  • Monitor and report on contract performance regarding programme, cost, and key issues
  • Perform full commercial management from pre-contract estimating through to post-contract activities
  • Conduct site visits to administer contracts in line with work progress
  • Execute contract closeout processes and resolve outstanding issues
  • Collaborate with project teams to evaluate budget impacts and report cost variances

Requirements

  • Significant post-qualification experience in Quantity Surveying within civil engineering or utilities
  • Proven experience on water and wastewater projects (treatment works, pipelines, etc.)
  • Experience delivering projects under AMP frameworks (AMP7 / AMP8)
  • Strong commercial management experience across the full project lifecycle
  • Demonstrable experience administering NEC contracts (compensation events, early warnings)
  • Proficiency in cost planning, forecasting, and budget control
  • Ability to manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and variations
  • Experience mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Assistants

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working for or alongside Tier 1 contractors
  • Knowledge of Ofwat regulatory requirements and water sector commercial drivers
  • Familiarity with infrastructure cost management systems and reporting tools
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
