About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end buying cycle, including supplier sourcing, product selection, vendor negotiation, and purchase order placement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Japanese vendors to ensure clear communication and aligned timelines.
- Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and logistics teams to ensure timely product launches and stock availability.
- Monitor inventory performance and optimize purchasing strategies to improve gross margins and stock efficiency.
- Analyze market trends and customer needs to identify new product opportunities within the Japanese non-food market.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless go-to-market process for new brands and products.
Requirements
- 2+ years of full-time buying or sourcing experience, preferably in retail, e-commerce, or wholesale.
- High fluency in both Japanese and English (written and spoken) is required.
- Demonstrated understanding of Japanese business culture and negotiation styles.
- Proven expertise in vendor negotiation, cost management, and purchase planning.
- Deep understanding of Incoterms and global trade regulations, including international logistics.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales and inventory data.
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP or inventory management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with Japanese brands and suppliers.
- Prior experience in J-beauty, home goods, or other Japanese consumer product categories.
- Knowledge of customs clearance, compliance, and import documentation for international shipping.
- Experience localizing Japanese products for U.S. and international consumers.
