Responsibilities

  • Perform ballistic performance modeling for tactical motor configurations including boost, sustain, and dual-thrust grain geometries
  • Develop and validate predictive models in SPP, CLWire, or equivalent tools
  • Characterize and model burn rate pressure exponent, temperature sensitivity, and erosive burning behavior
  • Perform advanced structural and thermal analyses using FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or NASTRAN
  • Design and execute characterization programs covering mechanical properties, burn rate, and aging
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level propellant engineers
  • Lead or support PHA, FMEA, and FTA activities for explosive safety compliance

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion design or manufacturing
  • Minimum 2 years focused on composite propellant systems for tactical applications
  • Demonstrated technical authority on tactical motor development or qualification programs
  • Experience with additive manufacturing for propulsion components
  • Proficiency in CFD tools like ANSYS Fluent or STAR-CCM+
  • Knowledge of solid rocket motor MIL-SPEC standards, STANAG 4170, and DoD explosive safety regulations
  • Familiarity with MATLAB or Python for data reduction and statistical analysis
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to comply with ITAR

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with coupled fluid-structural analysis
