About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of next-generation pyrolyzers and biomass conversion processes to maximize bio-oil yield and reliability.
- Define experimental strategies and test plans to address technical uncertainties and inform commercialization.
- Own the investigation and resolution of complex process performance and scale-up challenges in pilot and demonstration systems.
- Develop and validate process models, material and energy balances, and engineering analyses.
- Prepare and review technical documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, SOPs, and equipment specifications.
- Facilitate process safety activities such as HAZOP, FMEA, and MOC reviews.
- Partner with Mechanical, Automation, and Operations teams to ensure successful technology deployment.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to company-wide engineering standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in process development or scale-up engineering.
- Significant experience operating and developing pilot-scale systems.
- Deep understanding of heat transfer, reaction engineering, mass and energy balances, and process controls.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills for diagnosing complex equipment failures.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with pyrolysis, gasification, biomass conversion, or renewable fuels.
- Experience commissioning and operating industrial systems at demonstration or commercial scale.
- Experience leading process hazard analyses and implementing safety management programs.
