About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide scientific leadership and strategic direction for understanding molecular structure, solution behavior, and permeation characteristics to enable optimal drug formulation.
- Integrate pharmaceutics, physical organic chemistry, materials science, and biopharmaceutics principles into drug candidate screening and design.
- Lead matrix teams of scientists to deliver portfolio breakthroughs and set direction for advances in oral small molecule drug delivery.
- Develop and advance concepts of early translational biopharmaceutics to improve predictive capabilities between in vitro and in vivo performance.
- Mentor and teach colleagues across the organization while cultivating effective relationships with internal partners in Medicinal Design and Clinical Pharmacology.
- Conduct novel scientific research and present significant findings through internal and external publications and presentations.
Requirements
- PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science, Physical Chemistry, or a related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Alternatively, a BS/MS in a related field with 10-12 years of relevant industry experience in small molecule drug product design.
- Strong background in small molecule formulation, early biopharmaceutics, materials science, or pharmacokinetics.
- Knowledge of biology, pharmacology, and drug discovery through Proof of Concept (POC) studies.
- Experience using and interpreting biophysical modeling and physicochemical transport phenomena (solubility, dissolution, and permeation).
- Proven ability to work effectively within cross-disciplinary teams in a matrix environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven track record of supervising, mentoring, and coaching scientists.
- Deep understanding of drug discovery and development concepts.
- Experience actively developing scientific initiatives and managing external collaborations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with peers to achieve business impact.
