Senior Principal Scientist

Responsibilities

• Drive route scouting, synthetic design, and process development for small molecule API programs.
• Apply innovative synthetic chemistry and statistical experimental design to develop safe, efficient, and robust processes.
• Lead matrix teams of scientists to deliver portfolio breakthroughs and influence scientific strategy.
• Advance research in automation, robotics, and AI to enhance process development efficiency.
• Mentor and coach junior scientists and colleagues across the organization.
• Cultivate effective relationships with internal stakeholders in Global Technology Engineering and Launch and Pfizer Global Supply.
• Conduct novel scientific research and present findings through internal and external publications or presentations.

Requirements

• PhD in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in small molecule API process research and development within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Expertise in modern synthetic methodology, including asymmetric synthesis, green chemistry, and catalysis.
• Proven track record in designing and redesigning API manufacturing processes from ideation through commercial manufacture.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix environment.
• Strong understanding of intellectual property and patents related to API process R&D.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with automated laboratory technologies, HTE, and continuous processing.
• Knowledge of contemporary regulatory guidance regarding the control of impurities, including genotoxic impurities.
• Proficiency in using computational and statistical methodology to enhance process development.
