About the role
Responsibilities
- Drive the discovery of novel peptide therapeutics by governing the design and synthesis of innovative peptides and peptidomimetics.
- Lead scientific and project teams from concept to clinic, guiding research from early hit identification through lead optimization.
- Implement rational drug design strategies using peptide synthesis, conformational analysis, and computational methods to optimize pharmaceutical properties.
- Champion cross-functional collaboration by serving as a key scientific partner to Research Biology and Drug Discovery teams.
- Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to junior scientists and contribute to the prioritization of team objectives.
- Oversee the analysis and interpretation of complex analytical data, including mass spectrometry, HPLC, and NMR, to ensure compound identity and purity.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or postdoctoral degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry with a track record of advancing drug candidates into clinical testing.
- Mastery in complex molecule organic synthesis, including automated solid-phase peptide synthesis and solution-phase small molecule synthesis.
- Expertise in high-throughput and parallel synthesis for library generation.
- Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting analytical data such as HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, and NMR.
- Experience with computational modeling and simulation, including conformational sampling and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.
- Proficiency in structure-based and ligand-based drug design using software such as Schrödinger, MOE, or Maestro.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of macrocyclic peptides and related library-based screening technologies (e.g., OBOC, mRNA display, AS/MS).
- Familiarity with machine learning and AI-driven platforms for predicting peptide properties and optimizing sequences.
- Demonstrated success in a leadership role guiding multidisciplinary teams within a globally matrixed organization.
