Senior/Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer - Structural Dynamics

Responsibilities

• Conduct fundamental research, development, and technical testing in structural dynamics, including modal and shock & vibration testing.
• Lead detailed technical planning, execution, and reporting for complex test series across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Develop and implement new solutions and improvements for technical and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with mission partners to map technical requirements to national security needs.
• Present research findings at technical conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
• Perform structural dynamics testing on diverse projects including weapon systems, aerospace structures, and civil structures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
• Five (5) years of directly relevant experience in mechanical engineering or structural dynamics.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
• Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB.
• Expertise in structural dynamics, such as Experimental Modal Analysis or Shock & Vibration testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex.
• Experience with dynamic sensors, instrumentation (e.g., accelerometers), and data acquisition systems.
• Demonstrated skills in digital signal or image processing techniques.
• Experience with hazardous testing environments, such as explosives.
