Senior/Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer - Process Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead the identification, development, and qualification of production processes for neutron generator components
• Participate in the product realization process to evaluate components supporting nuclear weapon systems
• Conduct experimental work to close knowledge gaps and improve design definition for neutron generator requirements
• Anticipate and lead technical risks and continuous improvement initiatives
• Lead product and manufacturing infrastructure design definitions throughout the product life cycle
• Implement quality management systems and mistake-proofing techniques
• Train production trades and technologists to ensure effective and consistent process execution

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline
• Five years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
• Experience applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Strong analytical skills and experience applying the scientific method to technical data

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field
• Experience with product realization within the NNSA complex
• Working knowledge of Nuclear Deterrence programs and processes
• Experience with machine shop equipment, tooling, and dimensional inspections
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Lean/Six Sigma, or additive manufacturing
• Green Belt or Black Belt certification
