About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the mechanical design and qualification of highly integrated electro-mechanical telemetry units.
- Drive mechanical development from concept through qualification, including requirements definition and environmental test planning.
- Lead collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to manage system needs and hardware requirements.
- Perform hands-on engineering, including fixture development, hardware assembly support, and environmental testing (shock, vibration, temperature, etc.).
- Use CAD tools (CREO preferred) and configuration management tools to design and manage product configurations.
- Perform and analyze finite element analysis (FEA) for stress, strain, modal response, and thermal environments.
- Coordinate with vendors and procurement teams to manage fabrication and test fixtures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Five (5) years of directly relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- An active DOE L-level security clearance or equivalent to start.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
- Ability to work 100% onsite at the Livermore, CA facility.
- Ability to travel up to 25% to support the mission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field.
- Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or serving as a subsystem lead.
- Proficiency with CREO, Solidworks, or similar MCAD design tools.
- Experience leading mechanical design reviews (PDR/CDR) and managing requirements flow-down.
- Expertise in root-cause investigations and implementing corrective actions (FRACAS).
