Senior/Principal Mechanical Lead - Telemetry Engineering

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the mechanical design and qualification of highly integrated electro-mechanical telemetry units.
• Drive mechanical development from concept through qualification, including requirements definition and environmental test planning.
• Lead collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to manage system needs and hardware requirements.
• Perform hands-on engineering, including fixture development, hardware assembly support, and environmental testing (shock, vibration, temperature, etc.).
• Use CAD tools (CREO preferred) and configuration management tools to design and manage product configurations.
• Perform and analyze finite element analysis (FEA) for stress, strain, modal response, and thermal environments.
• Coordinate with vendors and procurement teams to manage fabrication and test fixtures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Five (5) years of directly relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• An active DOE L-level security clearance or equivalent to start.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Ability to work 100% onsite at the Livermore, CA facility.
• Ability to travel up to 25% to support the mission.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or serving as a subsystem lead.
• Proficiency with CREO, Solidworks, or similar MCAD design tools.
• Experience leading mechanical design reviews (PDR/CDR) and managing requirements flow-down.
• Expertise in root-cause investigations and implementing corrective actions (FRACAS).
