Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop high-performance computational models to analyze mechanical and physical systems.
• Design and implement experimental diagnostic methods to measure mechanical and physical processes.
• Conduct research in areas such as fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, engineering mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Apply research findings to the design, development, and testing of mechanical, electromechanical, and piezoelectric systems.
• Analyze system performance under stress conditions including temperature, load, motion, shock, and vibration.
• Lead hands-on assembly, testing, and fielding of designed products in laboratory and environmental testing environments.
• Collaborate within integrated multidisciplinary teams to support experimental research and development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
• Five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance or equivalent active government security clearance.
• Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field involving independent research.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex.
• Proficiency with CAD and CAE software tools such as Creo and SolidWorks.
• Experience applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex technical information.
