About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform research, testing, and development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, fabrications, and components.
- Work in a laboratory environment involving the handling and formulation of explosive materials through mixing, recrystallization, and milling.
- Utilize electrical diagnostic equipment and draft detailed drawings for fabrication using software such as SolidWorks.
- Fabricate and assemble new or modified mechanical components and explosive test articles.
- Analyze experimental data and recommend modifications to designs or test procedures.
- Assist with test setup, cleanup, and documentation of operational procedures in compliance with ES&H activities.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in science, engineering, or technology; or four years of equivalent explosive experience.
- Experience working with mechanical and/or electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
- Ability to work onsite in a laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing and following established documented safety procedures in a high-rigor environment.
- Experience using engineering drawings or schematics to maintain or build electromechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of installing, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal direction.
