Senior Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Verify test requisitions and patient identification before draws
• Perform venipunctures and finger sticks to obtain blood specimens
• Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic technique and department procedures
• Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection
• Maintain quality results, record outcomes, and report needed changes
• Resolve unusual test orders by contacting physicians, pathologists, or nursing stations
• Manage logistical tasks including printing patient reports and triaging billing questions
• Schedule courier pickups and coordinate follow-up with patients
• Complete HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training within 30 days of hire

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Phlebotomy certificate (if required by State)
• Ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies, and JCAHO requirements
• Knowledge of HIPAA and PHI privacy regulations
