About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage environmental permit compliance for wind, solar, and battery storage projects across the United States.
- Ensure compliance with wildlife fatality studies, habitat monitoring, sound studies, and restoration obligations.
- Contract and manage third-party environmental monitoring services and respond to field non-compliance concerns.
- Interpret regulations, codes, and ordinances to communicate requirements to internal stakeholders.
- Meet with jurisdictional agencies and regulators to negotiate permits and solve compliance issues.
- Submit required documentation and reports to permitting agencies during the operations phase.
- Support the transition of projects from the construction phase to operations.
- Manage project budgets, accounting, and third-party invoicing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Policy, Wildlife, Project Management, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in energy project compliance and environmental review.
- Strong knowledge of US environmental permitting regulations for complex renewable energy projects.
- Deep understanding of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, and Clean Water Act.
- Experience working with state, local, and federal permitting jurisdictions and regulators.
- Ability to travel domestically approximately 30% or more.
- Proficiency with Windows-based business software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or a comparable field.
- Experience managing compliance in states with complex requirements, such as New York, California, or Oregon.
- Experience with large-scale construction projects and wildlife-related impact issues.
- Proficiency with compliance management software and SAP.
