About the role

Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end biweekly payroll for 1,500+ multi-state U.S. employees
  • Review, validate, and reconcile payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, bonuses, and equity events
  • Audit payroll data to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and garnishments
  • Support payroll tax filings, year-end activities, W-2 processing, and audits
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and assist with monthly/quarterly close
  • Manage employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and discretion
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve efficiency
  • Partner with HR Systems to ensure data integrity across Workday and payroll platforms

Requirements

  • 7+ years of payroll processing experience with full-cycle U.S. payroll ownership
  • Experience with multi-state employee populations in high-growth environments
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage/hour laws
  • Experience with Workday HCM and ADP Payroll or similar enterprise systems (Rippling, Deel, CloudPay)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including lookups and pivot tables
  • High degree of integrity and ability to handle confidential information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
  • Experience supporting payroll for public or pre-IPO companies
  • Experience processing equity-related transactions (RSUs, stock options, ESPP)
  • Familiarity with international payroll coordination
  • Experience supporting SOX controls and audit requirements
  • Experience working within Workday Payroll
