Senior Patent Counsel

Responsibilities

• Review, support, and draft patent applications for scientific and engineering inventions, with a focus on the mechanical arts.
• Provide legal advice and opinions regarding the patentability of inventions and the validity of existing patents.
• Supervise and review the work product of outside counsel for the prosecution of domestic and international patent applications.
• Communicate with company inventors and the Intellectual Property team to facilitate the development of engineering-related inventions.
• Research potential infringement by competitors' products and provide recommendations to senior management.
• Advise General Counsel on IP-related licenses, non-disclosure agreements, and other patent-related contracts.
• Manage patent dockets and budgets.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) degree.
• Active state bar license.
• Admittance to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supervising outside and foreign patent counsel.
• Proven experience in docket oversight and budget management.
• Proficiency with patent searching tools and databases.
