About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical legal assistance and support to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) within the Criminal Division
- Prepare complex legal documents including indictments, arrest warrants, motions, plea agreements, and legal memoranda
- Assist attorneys in trial preparation by compiling witness notebooks, organizing exhibits, and assembling jury instructions
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis to verify citations and statutory references
- Electronically file legal documents with the U.S. District Court using the CM/ECF system
- Manage electronic discovery databases and link case-related materials into ESI tools
- Maintain electronic case files, perform docketing duties, and track case filings using case management systems
- Coordinate with victim/witness specialists to ensure adherence to departmental guidelines
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance
- Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school (minimum one year completed)
- At least two years of litigation paralegal experience
- At least one year of experience in automated litigation support
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Lexis or Westlaw
- Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures
- Strong written and oral communication skills
