Senior Optical System Designer

Responsibilities

• Architect optical solutions, including new hardware configurations and features to improve functionality and performance
• Author Product Specification Agreements detailing high-level requirements for new features or architectures
• Partner with Product Line Managers to clarify and negotiate customer requirements
• Generate creative solutions and perform trade-off analyses between complexity and performance
• Support customer demonstrations of new features or prototypes
• Lead investigations into complex field issues to perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
• Mentor junior team members and interface with cross-functional design and verification teams

Requirements

• Deep understanding of fiber optic communication systems and optical technologies/architectures
• Knowledge of optical propagation and impairments
• Expertise in optical link budgeting and its application to new designs
• Familiarity with YANG data model structures and NBI
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and coordinate multi-team investigations
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and multitasking skills

Preferred Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of Ciena RLS photonic platforms and their applications
• Experience with network planning and/or optical planning tools
• Knowledge of control loop design
