Senior Network Consultant

Responsibilities

• Architect, engineer, secure, and optimize B2B and WAN connectivity across Optum's global network
• Specialize in Cisco routing, switching, and IPsec/IKE VPN design
• Manage large-scale B2B partner connectivity and WAN/MPLS integration
• Evaluate, pilot, and engineer new technologies in partnership with infrastructure leads
• Mentor senior engineers and influence architectural decisions
• Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting across multi-vendor VPN ecosystems

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience in large-scale, Cisco-based environments
• Expert level proficiency with Cisco routing and security platforms
• Advanced mastery of IPsec/IKEv2 VPN design (AES GCM, DH21, PFS, crypto maps, etc.)
• Proven troubleshooting capability across multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, ASA/FTD, CheckPoint)
• Strong understanding of routing policy design, NAT, segmentation (VRFs), and secure edge connectivity
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including after-hours changes and on-call rotations

Preferred Qualifications

• CCNP or higher certification
• Experience with Arista switch management and Palo Alto firewalls
• Experience installing and maintaining Cisco routers and switches
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python
• Strong documentation skills using tools like Visio
• Ability to translate highly technical concepts for diverse audiences
